Title: Limited Attention as a Rationalization of the Optimality-Accuracy Trade-off in Perceptual Decision Making
Abstract: This paper proposes a theoretical rationalization of the optimality-accuracy trade-off usually observed in asymmetrical perceptual decision. This rationalization is based on Decision Maker's limited Attention: if considering the information related to the stimuli and the one related to the payoff costs attention for an optimal classifier, he may ignore some part of the information. We propose several models to represents these attentional costs. In addition to explain and rationalize usual results, we provide new experimental evidence in support of our theory that standard Signal Detection Theory cannot take into account.
